Abstract:
The present research explores a pattern of village mosques in Upper Egypt that was rarely adopted, namely mosques with multiple domes coverage. It highlights the model in a unique pattern in Upper Egypt, namely Al-Atiq mosque in Aljabalaw, Qena, Egypt. The study ide-ntifies the reasons behind the use of this pattern in the architecture of mosques in the village despite its scarce use. It also examines the architecture of this pattern accurately and the most important features that distinguish it from the mosques of the main cities in Egypt. The study documented Aljabalaw mosque in an accurate scientific manner and identified its planning principles. Moreover, a descriptive study was done on all architectural and decorative units to analyze and entrench them, where applicable. The study concluded a set of results of the reason for adopting this planning in the mosque under study for environmental, climatic, or geographic reasons. The founder of the mosque might prefer this planning. The study recommends the registration of Al-Atiq mosque in Aljabalaw, Qena as an Islamic monument.
